EU funds thousands of charging points and over 60 H2 filling stations

Brussels (energate) - The EU is funding the construction of 2,000 charging points and 63 hydrogen filling stations. The alternative infrastructure is to be built along the trans-European transport grid and for service vehicles at airports. The European Commission has earmarked a total of 189 million euros for the project. The money comes from the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility, it announced.

Twenty-six projects from twelve member states have been awarded contracts. The construction itself will be carried out by various companies, including the German charging grid operator Ionity. Ionity is planning 42 charging stations for light commercial vehicles at seven locations in Hungary and will receive funding of 1.5 million euros. The results will be final as soon as the Commission takes formal funding decisions. This is expected to happen in the coming weeks. /dz
