Calw (energate) - The mobility subsidiary of Energie Calw 'deer' is launching a new business model. In Stuttgart, the company wants to offer electric car sharing without fixed stations with initially 100 e-cars (free floating). The offer was launched on 13 March, as Deer now announced. So far, the company has concentrated on station-based e-car sharing. According to Deer, 10,000 customers have used the service so far. The new service is a pilot project. The vehicles will be charged at the Stadtwerke Stuttgart (public utility company), with whom a corresponding cooperation exists, said a company spokesperson upon request.
The step is also possible because Stuttgart has exempted car-sharing vehicles from parking fees since this year, the company added. The e-cars have to be picked up and parked again in a defined zone within the city area and trips outside of it are possible. The first 30 minutes, for example, cost 4.95 euros, a full day 69.90 euros. Free-floating car sharing is not a sure-fire success because of the logistical effort involved. The car companies BMW and Daimler, for example, first reduced their offer, and in mid-2022 they finally sold their joint venture Share Now to the Stellantis Group, to which Opel belongs, for example.
Deer GmbH, founded in 2019 and based in Calw, Baden-Württemberg, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Energie Calw. The company's goal is to establish an
area-wide e-car sharing network in Baden-Württemberg. The operation of currently 250 charging stations in more than 200 municipalities is also part of the Deer portfolio. /dz
