Networking of Europe's offshore wind farms

Berlin (energate) - Germany's transmission grid operators are taking the first steps towards creating a hybrid offshore grid for wind power in the North and Baltic Seas. The aim is to connect wind farms with an initial capacity of 10,000 MW via a series of hubs. This should lead to them not only feeding into the German grid, but also enabling the exchange of electricity with EU neighbours such as the Netherlands or Denmark, the Federal Ministry of Economics announced.
