Stadtwerke Münster forges hydrogen alliance with Westenergie

Münster (energate) - The public utility company Stadtwerke Münster wants to open up hydrogen as a business segment. To this end, the Westphalian utility is cooperating with the Eon subsidiary Westenergie. The focus of the cooperation, which has now been laid down in a letter of intent, is the "exchange of experience on a hydrogen infrastructure and possible supply agreements", according to Stadtwerke Münster. Specifically, this will include determining the potential for "converting existing natural gas networks for the transport of green hydrogen" and joint network planning. The aim is also to manage future projects in a joint organisational structure.

Research on hydrogen is already underway in Münster. On the one hand, the city's university of applied sciences was involved in the construction of the so-called Enapter Campus in the nearby municipality of Saerbeck, where modular electrolysers are produced. On the other hand, work is being done there on various ways to produce hydrogen, for example from industrial waste water. /pa
