Rotterdam/Madrid (energate) - The planned ACE terminal in Rotterdam for the import of ammonia has found its first supplier in Spain's Cepsa. Both parties have agreed in a letter of intent to establish a supply chain for green hydrogen from Spain to the Netherlands, using ammonia as a carrier. The Spanish oil company plans to build two energy parks in Andalusia with a hydrogen production capacity of 2,000 MW by 2030. The two production sites, with an investment volume of around 3 billion euros, are to form the largest European hydrogen hub to date as the "Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley".
In Rotterdam, at the other end of the transport corridor, Gasunie, HES International and Vopak are planning to
build the ACE terminal as an entry point for the northwest European hydrogen market. By repurposing existing facilities and infrastructure, the open access terminal will be made available to the market quickly. The Memorandum of Understanding with Cepsa is the first of its kind, Rotterdam says. It confirms the commitment of the Spanish company, which has already agreed plans with the Rotterdam port company to build a green corridor for hydrogen transports. Accordingly, the first transports from Spain are to start in 2027 (
energate reported). /tc
