Reußenköge (energate) - The renewable energy specialist GP Joule and a joint venture of the truck manufacturers Nikola and Iveco want to put hydrogen vehicles on the road together. Initially, 100 semi-trailer trucks with fuel cell propulsion are planned by 2026, according to a letter of intent signed by the companies. The vehicles are to come off the production line in Ulm at the plant of the joint venture between Iveco and the US company Nikola.
Maintenance of the trucks is in the hands of Iveco, GP Joule is responsible for supplying the green hydrogen. The company from Reußenköge wants to make the trucks available to transport and logistics customers. The condition for the deal with Iveco and Nikola is a subsidy for climate-friendly mobility via the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility.
The cooperation offers customers the opportunity to get everything from a single source, from production and purchase of the green hydrogen to hydrogen filling stations to fuel cell tractor units and service tailored to their needs, explained Andre Steinau, managing director of GP Joule's hydrogen subsidiary.
Cooperation with Clean Logistics
This is not GP Joule's first cooperation in the field of hydrogen in truck transport. Last year, the company agreed on a cooperation with the truck retrofitter Clean Logistics. The goal: to deliver 5,000 40-tonne hydrogen-powered trucks (
