Essen (energate) - The energy group Steag completed the division of the group at the turn of the year. In future, two operating companies will operate under the umbrella of Steag GmbH: Steag Power GmbH will continue the power plant business as the 'black' part of the company. It will be managed by Andreas Reichel, who will also continue to hold the post of chairman of the Steag management board. Due to the
market return of individual power plants, Steag Power currently operates hard-coal-fired power plants at six locations in Germany.
2,300 employees transfer to Iqony
The Essen-based company is bundling its 'green' future business under the new brand Iqony. The management of Iqony GmbH, which will start with a total of 2,300 employees, is to be taken over by Ralf Schiele, previously Steag's managing director for the Market & Technology division. The business areas of renewable energies, gas power plants, storage, services for industry and commerce and hydrogen will be transferred to the new company. The company plans to announce details of the split and the new brand in the coming week; the company has already activated the corresponding
website.
The split
of Steag is related to the planned sale. The municipal shareholders want to sell their shares and are looking for a buyer. A first market approach last year had shown that the clear separation of the business units increases the attractiveness for investors. The official sales process is to start in the coming weeks. /rb
