Bonn (energate) - While the industry is looking with concern to the coming winter and a possible complete gas supply stop from Russia, the German gas supply was reliable last year. This is shown by the so-called Saidi value, which is determined annually by the Federal Network Agency. According to this, the average interruption in gas supply to end consumers in 2021 was only 2.18 minutes. This was significantly above the
previous year's figure of 1.09 minutes, and also slightly above the long-term average. Nevertheless, the supply was very secure, Klaus Müller, President of the Federal Network Agency, stressed. The main reason for the longer interruptions was external interference with gas pipelines during construction work.
Once a year, the Federal Network Agency calculates the average value of gas supply interruptions for all end consumers (System Average Interruption Duration Index, Saidi value) in Germany. The calculation, based on reports from the gas network operators, only includes unplanned interruptions that can be attributed to third-party influences, backlashes from other networks or other disruptions in the network operator's area.
