Berlin (energate) - Germany wants to subsidise the construction of large-scale electrolysers as part of its climate protection efforts. This is the result of the draft for the immediate climate protection programme, which is available to the editorial team. The programme is the Federal Government's reaction to last year's increase in greenhouse gas emissions last. According to the Climate Protection Act, measures for individual sectors must be adopted in this case.
The subsidy programme for hydrogen production is intended to promote the market ramp-up of the technology. Subsidies are envisaged for plants of 20 MW to 100 MW "and more", according to the draft of the emergency programme. Currently there is no such programme, although a national hydrogen strategy has been in place for two years. With the announced programme, the German government wants to support investments up to the commissioning of the electrolyser. Funding for operating costs is not included.
According to the draft, the subsidised plants are to be located near industrial plants and "operated in a way that serves the system". Accordingly, projects in Germany in various stages of development can receive a subsidy. The draft does not specify the total volume of funding.
Timetable for climate protection contracts
The German government also wants to secure the use of green hydrogen in the industry with
climate protection contracts (CfD). The contracts serve to offset the higher costs. According to the draft of the Climate Protection Emergency Programme, the focus is primarily on basic material industries, i.e. steel, cement or ammonia production. According to the draft, the government wants to develop a corresponding funding guideline for climate protection contracts before the summer break and have it approved by the EU Commission by the end of 2022. /kw
